Join WBL members for a conversation with a board member, Tina Blasi, about your goal of joining a corporate board.

Maybe board membership has been a goal of yours for some time, or maybe you are just beginning to think about adding a board membership to your résumé. If you’ve set your sights on board service, there is a lot to know before just diving in.  Join us on this Roundtable conversation with board member Tina Blasi who will answer questions about the road she took to board membership and help you evaluate some next steps for yourself.

What is a Roundtable?

WBL Roundtables are an hour-long “coffee chat” hosted virtually so you can participate from your desk. They provide real-time, informative discussions and relationship-building with other members that takes place in a virtual medium, giving you a chance to interact with other WBL members outside of in-person events. Calls will be limited to 10 participants who are Full WBL Members.

This call is ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATORY.  It’s not just for listening while you multi-task!  Show up ready to talk, share ideas, and learn new things. Add this to your calendar if you’re interested in talking and networking – it is not a webinar!

The call will address:

·         How did Tina get invited to join each of her boards?

·         What was her interview process like for each opportunity?

·         Are there other women board members in the room?

·         What is the time commitment really like?

·         Is a non-profit board good preparation for the for-profit realm?

·         What skill sets are her boards looking for in particular?

·         What is the main way they locate candidates?

·         What is her elevator pitch if another board is interesting?

·         When has she said no to a board seat and why?

·         Why is it important to be passionate about the board or industry you serve?

Questions to consider about yourself before the call:

·         What is your value proposition?

·         Who do you know that has influence in the boardroom?

·         Do you interact with your own company’s board?

·         Is board service permitted, encouraged, or not allowed by your company?

·         If I haven’t been a CEO, what boards are a fit for me?

·         What non-profit boards are you on, and how do those other board members interact with the for-profit world?

·         What is your timeline for joining a board?

·         What is your elevator pitch?
